MOUNTAIN BIKE TRAILS / TRECKING BUSH WALKING

Parklands Conservation Park has over 30 km of great hiking and cycling recreation trails which cross a number of creeks and lead to rock pools and cascades, which flow after heavy rainfall. There are some steep sections so walkers should have high fitness levels.

A short drive to Mount Ninderry and Mount Coolum, both relatively easy hiking tracks with wonderful views.

NATURE LOVERS / BIRD WATCHERS

Hidden Valley is perfect for bird watchers, it varies according to the season and there are more than 160 bird species that visit our farm, many of which are insect eating which eliminates the need for pesticides.

On the fringes of the headlands you can see small finches, several fantails and beautiful fairy wrens, robins, honeyeaters and many doves to large parrots and cockatoos.

At the Billabong there are water birds such as ducks, cormorants, rails and quail. In our rainforest you will see whipbird and at night owls and frogmouths.

Maroochy Wetlands Sanctuary Just a short 11km trip down the road is the Maroochy Wetlands Sanctuary at Bli Bli. You can explore wet and dry eucalypt forests, rainforest, melaleuca forest, casuarina woodland, salt marsh and mangroves. You can watch over 200 different types of birds, as well as crabs, butterflies and other animals that make the wetlands their home. There is also an information centre at the Wetlands.

Maroochy Botanic Garden The Maroochy Regional Bushland Botanic Garden is located in Tanawha on the Sunshine Coast. The gardens showcase plants native to east coast subtropical Australia.

Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve Rainforest Discovery Centre The Reserve comprises 55 hectares of National Estate, a subtropical rainforest overlooking the Glasshouse Mountains. The Rainforest Education Centre has interactive displays, multi-sensory experiences & exhibits. There is a great chance you will see pademelons, a small marsupial.

Butterfly Hill Open Wed – Sun. Seasonal – Closed during Winter. 28 Petrie Creek Road Nambour. Fabulous butterfly house with amazing stick insects. Tina is a wonderful source of information.

CANOE / KAYAK

Canoe launching sites at 2.3km to Vee Road, 3.6km to Coulsons Wharf Park and 5km to Dunethin Rock ramp or Explore the Noosa Everglades.

WAPPA FALLS OBSERVATORY

Less than 6km from here is one of Queensland’s leading private observatories with 16 Telescopes ranging in size. They have 50 years experience in astronomy and the observatory has been open for 27 years. A must do on a clear night. (Pre book) http://www.wappafallsobservatory.com/

Saturday Yandina Country Markets. A must do for produce and plants. Great choice for breakfast. 6am-noon at the Yandina Sports Grounds.

Sunday Fishermans Road Markets in Maroochydore.

SWIMMING

The local beaches such as Coolum, Cotton Tree, Mooloolaba are about 20 to 30 mins away.

For a shady option of swimming try one of the following:

  • Swimming hole # 1– approx 11 km (15 min Hidden Valley) Suitable for young children.
    Turn left at the traffic lights into Old Gympie Road which turns into Cooloolabin Road; turn left into Kiamba Road; follow along until you reach a one lane bridge and then walk a short distance in on the left.
  • Swimming hole # 2 – approx 13 km (17 min from Hidden Valley).
    Continue along Kiamba Road until you reach a second one lane bridge. Swimming holes are in the rock pools to the left of the bridge.
  • Robinson Falls. Waterfall Road, Nambour. Cilento Bushland Conservation Reserve.
  • Gardeners Falls – has Tarzan rope, can jump off rocks; great to do if going to Maleny.
  • Serenity Falls Buderim Forest.
